Khor Virap Monastery
Khor Virap Monastery is one of the most important spiritual sights of Armenia, with which the history of the proclamation of Armenia as the first Christian country is connected. The name of the monastery means “deep dungeon”. Khor Virap was built over a dungeon, where St. Gregory the Illuminator accused of spreading Christianity was imprisoned for 13 years.
The monastery is considered one of the main places to visit in Armenia, where thousands of tourists from different countries make pilgrimage tours every year. The popularity of trips to Khor Virap is related to the fact that it offers the best view of the sacred Mount Ararat.
